Abstract :
A review of particulate media for computer tape, video, digital audio, and flexible disk applications is made. The range of magnetic particles available to the media formulator is compared and contrasted; tradeoffs are considered in terms of potential magnetic performance to processing and stability limitations. Optimization in the substrate properties to accommodate the quality requirements of newer products, combined with thinner coating and substrate demands, are reviewed.
