Abstract :
This article outlines the Navy´s experience and conclusions in regard to the various types of plate supply, for vacuum-tube transmitters, which have been used. After listing and briefly discussing the considerations governing the selection of an ideal plate supply for transmitters, a comparison is made between the various types and the ideal. Navy experience in regard to character and control of output, source of primary power, reliability and repairs, ruggedness and efficiency is discussed in some detail. Data regarding comparative first costs and operating costs are given, followed by a statement of the Navy´s present policy in regard to plate supply. In conclusion, the advantages and disadvantages of the motor generator and the mercury-vapor rectifier tube are tabulated.
