Abstract :
The text´s goal is to provide a clear presentation of both the principles of data compression and all the important compression methods currently in use. The 1,092-page book consists of eight chapters and covers some of the following topics: basic compression techniques; statistical methods for compression such as Huffman and arithmetic coding; dictionary methods; image compression techniques and standards; wavelet-based compression methods; audio compression; video compression; and other compression techniques. Overall, the book is an excellent reference on compression principles and methods for anyone with a general background in signal processing or computer science.
