  • Abstract
Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Qatar´s water distribution system from an existing control centre which houses a redundant SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system. The overall water network is currently controlled on a local basis from the distributed reservoir sites. Management of the water distribution and supply network from the existing control centre is largely a paper-based activity, with support from data logging equipment and verbal telephone communications which enables the latest network status to be obtained. This manually intensive facility has obvious limited scope for data acquisition and display, specially when compared with the facilities offered by a modern SCADA system, and clearly needs to be replaced to support the current rapid expansion of the KAHRAMAA water network.
