Abstract :
A one-dimensional model has been formulated of rod-intube drawn-down for optical-fiber preforms. The model, together with extensive experiments, establishes the dependence of length-to-closure (fusion between tube and rod) as a function of rod and tube dimensions, draw speed, draw-down ratio, and furnace temperature profile.
