Abstract :
A smart filter is proposed to optimise the performance of a frequency synchronisation loop which employs the Gardner maximum-likelihood carrier frequency error detector. Substantial improvement in bit error rate performance, very fast acquisition, and superior tracking performance even at low values of signal-to-noise ratio have been achieved.
