Abstract :
The transfer of high-performance computing and visualization technologies to state environmental protection agencies is an integral part of the US Environmental Protection Agency´s High-Performance Computing and Communications (HPCC) Program. One aspect of this process involves collaborative modeling for air quality efforts associated with the 1990 Clean Air Act. Another is the use of visualization as a diagnostic tool to depict modeling scenarios for various pollution control strategies. A fundamental step in this process involves using the existing Internet and the Nationwide Information Infrastructure (NII) for sharing data and electronic communication. Another step includes the development of visualization tools and user-friendly interfaces for collaborative exploration of environmental data sets.<>
