  • Abstract
A two-dimensional, so-called wavelength-hopping time-spreading, optical code-division multiple-access coding scheme has recently been studied for supporting more subscribers and simultaneous users than conventional one-dimensional techniques. To further improve the numbers of subscribers and simultaneous users without sacrificing performance, a new code, which utilizes the unipolar version of bipolar codes (for wavelength hopping) and optical unipolar codes (for time spreading), is studied and analyzed in this paper. A programmable and integratable coding hardware based on arrayed waveguide gratings is designed for this coding scheme.
