Abstract :
A Mach-Zehnder interferometer implemented in fibre optic form is used to characterise nonideal couplers. Experimental results show that both a deviation of the characteristic angle from the ideal value and a modulation of the output total power (depending on the relative phase shift between both input fields to the coupler) appear.
