Abstract
This paper investigates the operating characteristics and field measurement results of four 28-kW induction motors (IMs) employed for driving the coke-transfer car of a coke-oven plant in a practical iron-making company in Taiwan. Both nameplate data and field measured responses of the studied IMs under various operating conditions are utilized to obtain the electric parameters of the studied IMs. This paper discusses and compares the measured output responses of the four IMs driven by four small-capacity frequency converters and the ones of four parallel-operated IMs driven by a large-capacity frequency converter. According to the comparative measured results under both start-up and steady-state operating conditions, it can be concluded that the use of a large-capacity frequency converter to drive four parallel-operated IMs has several advantages over the original use of four small-capacity frequency converters to drive four IMs.
