Abstract :
A simplified receiver implementation for optical differential 8-level phase-shift keying using direct detection is proposed. This implementation reduces the number of optical components in the receiver to half. The impact of non-ideal receiver parameters is analysed and quantified for a 1 dB OSNR penalty.
