Abstract :
Several motor failure mechanisms and test methods to determine whether a motor is suitable for extended service are discussed. Application and limitations of these test procedures are described. It is concluded that motor windings fail because the magnetic forces which turn the rotor also cause motion and therefore abrasion in the windings
