Abstract :
A design technique is presented for coplanar waveguide monolithic balanced amplifiers employing impedance-transforming lumped-distributed branchline couplers. A synthesis procedure and design graphs are presented for this type of coupler, which uses a combination of short transmission line sections and lumped capacitors. A two-stage balanced Ku-band MESFET amplifier using 50-to-15 Ω transforming couplers has been designed, with a chip size of only 2 mm×1.7 mm, and the measured gain is 13.7±0.2 dB over the range 14-16 GHz
