Abstract :
A control strategy to improve the performance of a power system during an emergency is presented in this paper. Immediately following a major disturbance, the future power system performance is predicted using a faster than real-time simulation. If the predicted performance is unacceptable according to a set of prespecified criteria, appropriate control actions are taken to steer the power system from the impending danger. The major problems considered in this study are abnormal frequency trajectories, transmission line overloads, and abnormal bus voltages. Test results are also included in this study.
