Leverage for engineers´ career environment: the providence of technical societies

The authors calls attention to a program for evaluating employers´ activities that affect engineers´ and other knowledge workers´ lifetime careers. He argues that, if this program was successfully carried out, careers in engineering would become more pleasant and attractive as lifetime careers. The proposed leverage mechanism calls for the IEEE to constructively interact with employers and to institute a monitoring system of employers´ professional environments.<>
