Abstract
A number of research-based guidelines for incorporating instructional diagrams into documentation are discussed. A survey that was conducted to determine the extent to which existing computer-aided-design (CAD) documentation follows these guidelines is described. The results of the survey indicate that diagrams in CAD documentation do not, for the most part, follow the guidelines. Avenues of further research are suggested
