Abstract
A new analytical method to calculate eddy-current losses in the ferromagnetic tube of pipe- type cables has been developed. A uniform current distribution in the cylindrical cable cores was assumed. The magnetization characteristic of the pipe material was assumed linear and hysteresis losses were neglected. The integral equation, the image method and approximation techniques were adopted and numerical calculations were made for different configurations of the conductors in the pipe. The results have been presented as a series of graphs for various pipe and conductor dimensions. Experimental data reported by previous workers have been used to confirm the theoretical calculations. It has been shown that, the smallest losses appear in the close triangular configuration and the largest in the open triangular configuration.
