    Alongside the USA Navy´s DD (X) destroyer scheduled for service in 2011, the type 45 destroyer will be the first major class of ship to be equipped with a high performance integrated full electric power and propulsion system. Their launches signify a new era for naval engineering, but what, the author asks, does the future hold for power and propulsion systems in warships?.
