Abstract
As the number of dispersed storage and generation units connected to the power system increases, the need to control and monitor them in an integrated fashion will become increasingly evident. This paper examines the control and monitoring requirements for integrated operation of DSGs from a system viewpoint-that is to say, the discussions are largely independent of the variety of DSG technologies being developed. The control and monitoring functions are grouped into six categories. The requirements described in each category provide a basis for more detailed design and for specifications which can be more utility-and DSG-dependent. An example is provided of the calculation of the communication requirements for a DSG using hydro technology.
