Abstract
Due to increased megawatt unit sizes in the traditionally noisy power stations, noise emission levels have increased considerably. Regulations and public concern have increased the importance of reducing the harmful effects of this noise. IEEE recognized the need for industry guidance in this difficult area and formed a working group to consolidate expertise and report on the subject of power station audible noise control. Background is provided on the process of developing "the guide" report. The guide content is reviewed with emphasis on the systematic steps in consideration for a typical noise control program and how the guide assists in this regard.
