  • Abstract
The performance of gaze control is dependent on the accuracy of iris circle localization in eye image. In this paper, a new iris circle localization method is proposed using multidirectional gradient filters. At first, robust iris detection is performed using projection functions. Then, multi-directional gradient filters are applied to eye image for actual boundary detection of iris, and finally accurate iris circle is detected. The proposed method does not need a user-defined parameter and experimental results show that the proposed method is robust to illumination change. Even for images in which iris is located in either left or right side of an eye, the proposed method can accurately find an iris circle fitted to actual iris boundary.
