Abstract :
Finite elements have been widely used for the prediction of turbogenerators steady-state reactances. In comparison, water-wheel generators have received little attention in the literature. The present paper, while explaining the difficulties associated with the analysis of salient pole machines, describes a new method for the prediction of the steady-state reactances of a hydrogenerator. The method is applied to a large water-wheel generator and the computed reactances are compared with those obtained from the manufacturer´s shop-floor tests.
