This paper presents a study of tracking filters. Such filters are industrially important and useful in those applications requiring tight bandwidth control for obtaining improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). A "high-Q" tracking filter achieves good SNR and will "track" a wandering carrier frequency to maintain the same SNR. This paper outlines the analysis and design of tracking filters. The filter transfer function

and model will be presented. The transient responses will be predicted using the filter transfer function. Design procedures will also be outlined. These procedures will be used to design a typical tracking filter.
