Abstract :
Optical data storage once seemed to be failing, and the lessons to be learned from its turnaround apply to other high-tech products. The author discusses the four obstacles which may have caused the problems and how they were overcome. The various types of optical disc technologies are explained. Future market strategies for the optical disc are also discussed.<>
