Abstract :
This paper proposes a framework that realizes GUI-based remote operation of home appliances through narrow bandwidth of power-line communication. Plugged into an AC socket, compliant appliances are automatically registered to the home PLC gateway and ready to be controlled remotely by GUI devices such as PC, wireless PDA or touch-paneled TV. An appliance requires an 8-bit microcontroller, or even one task of an existing 16-bit microprocessor, for this extension.
