Abstract
This paper presents steps and procedure for the design of a 3-phase, 6 pole, 245V, 2kVA, surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). First the design and the performance analysis of the machine has been done by hand calculations. The results are then fine tuned and verified using a standard Finite Element Method package. Parameters of the machine have also been calculated. Static rotor shaft deflection and critical speed of the rotor have been calculated. The PMSG has been fabricated locally and is presently being tested.
