Abstract :
The overall reliability and performance of a standby generator system is related to the design of the switching circuits and their components. Ease of exercising the equipment without the system experiencing an extended interruption of power, cogeneration of power with the utility in the event of a brownout, and freedom of problems caused by reenergization of motors which are still generating a residual voltage can be achieved by providing the necessary switching and protective relay circuits. These circuits can be designed with manual or automatic synchronizing equipment built into packaged units or with individual switching devices having protective relay functions as required by the owner and the utility.
