Abstract :
An adaptive, multivariable optimal control system, which coordinates the excitation and governing system of a generator, has been studied by the authors. This paper describes the applicability of the new control system to a hydro-power generator connected with a long-distance transmission line, and includes results of an extensive field study. This paper also describes test-results obtained with a large-scale analog simulator on the controllability of the new control system applied to a longitudinal power system. Study results verify the reliable control performance of the new control system during various disturbances in a real power system, and the advantages of the new control system with respect to power system stability in a long-distance transmission system. The results also show that the new control system improves low frequency oscillation damping of longitudinal power systems
