Abstract :
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Standards covering dimensions, tolerances, and output series are summarized and compared to National Electrical Manufacturer´s Association (NEMA) Standards for ac motors. IEC Standards for the classification and application of motors in hazardous areas are also summarized. The question of dimensions and tolerances will normally be dictated by the driven equipment to which the motor is to be assembled. The acceptability of motors for hazardous locations will in general be dependent upon the local enforcement authority.
