Abstract :
Five categories of dielectric materials are discussed that may cause static ignition hazards in an industrial environment. Examples of fires that have been caused by static charge accumulation on nonconducting materials are described. Procedures for evaluating the degree of hazard and for avoiding static spark ignition are recommended.
