Abstract :
It is pointed out that distorted multipoles can be used to bring about uncommon field configurations e.g., segmental odd multipole fields. The latter are simply defined by flux density value profile along the symmetry axis. Flux lines may be either parallel or perpendicular to this axis. Examples are discussed in the light of current sheet solutions. It is seen from the examples that the respective orthogonal field configurations can be built up at least in a segment for any pole number. A technical realization can therefore be found. All that is needed is to take the flux lines as a convenient pole shape to bring about the respective orthogonal flux profile
