Abstract
Advances in information technology provide the key to the continuing success of producers of all types of electronic equipment. For true computer integrated manufacturing, as many processes as possible will be computer based, and there will be a requirement for interchange between processes. The success of CIM will depend on data the effectiveness of standards, particularly in the areas of communication and data representation.
