Abstract :
After developing, evaluating, and utilizing several generations of instrumented and coded neurologic function tests, we have designed a prototype minicomputer-based system that integrates a broad battery of tests into a clinically attractive console. The tests can be administered by a trained technician. Scoring, data analysis, storage, and retrieval are automated, providing the clinician with results expeditiously. In addition to a detailed description of the computer-automated system, we critically review corresponding alternate methods and devices developed in other laboratories. We also describe system design concepts, instrumentation techniques, test specifications, and software implementation/application features in detail.
