Abstract :
A two-dimensional H-field formulation is presented for the analysis of electromagnetic scattering by cylinders of arbitrary shape imbedded in a lossy medium. The arising Helmoltz equation, with various boundary conditions, is solved by the finite element method. In this exterior problem, the presence of the lossy surrounding medium allows the use of finite elements in their standard form. The numerical implementation of the formulation is discussed using an industrial finite element code. Some examples are then computed to illustrate the method.
