Abstract :
A 64-channel synchronous digital TV distribution system has been demonstrated transmitting over a passive optical network at 4.4 Gbit/s. The total power budget available was 21 dB. A novel scrambling, sampling and delay lock loop technique was used to achieve data security, a method of channel demultiplexing and to make maximum use of the available system bandwidth. The customer-end equipment used was identical to that utilized in a similar system which transmitted at 2.2 Gbit/s and operated at the video baseband rate of 69 Mbit/s. This feature makes the customer-end equipment potentially very cheap
