Abstract :
The authors report the synthesis and characterisation of high-quality colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) consisting of ZnS:Cu cores coated with CdS shells. The ZnS:Cu/CdS core/shell NCs are characterised by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), photoluminescence (PL) spectra and UV-vis spectra. From the TEM, it can be seen that the obtained NCs are uniform spherical-shaped particles and the average particles size increased from 2 to 3.5 nm with the shell growth. The PL emission intensity of core/shell NCs was found to be dependent on the shell thickness and the emission peak position was shifted from 480 to 610 nm with the CdS shell coating. These NCs can be a promising candidate for application as a commercial phosphor material.
