Abstract
Recently, an N-screen service has been drawing attention because of the widespread use of various smart devices. An N-screen service is a service that can use the same media content irrespective of the type of connected device. Therefore, to provide an optimal N-screen service, each connected device needs to be provided with optimized media contents. As the types and performances of smart devices have been constantly changing, various coding techniques have been developed to adapt to these changes. However, it is difficult for contents providers to flexibly cope with the changes in the contents-providing environment. Thus, in this paper, we propose a framework that makes it possible to flexibly create media contents by using a cloud-computing environment. In particular, one of the main characteristics of the proposed framework is to define the encoding process of media contents as a service concept and to provide a low-cost high-efficiency media contents encoding environment based on SaaS (Software as a Service), a service model of cloud computing.
