Abstract :
A model is presented for the analysis of the clipping noise in preclipping AM/QAM hybrid lightwave systems. It is shown that the clipping-induced degradation of BER performance can be reduced by preclipping the signal. It is also shown that the recurrence of the signal tips after passing through the low-pass filter presents a serious limit to the performance improvement achievable by the preclipping technique
