IV.B. Power Line Harmonic Effects on Communication Line Interference IEEE Working Group on Power System Harmonics

The principles of harmonic interference by power lines adjacent to communication lines are presented. Emphasis is placed on the physical understanding of the phenomena. The main factors involving the distribution system and the communication plant are presented. Practical field examples will illustrate the complex effects of power line harmonic interference into communication circuits. An engineering analysis of possible causes is presented and a guideline of possible inductive coordination solution to apply to both power and telephone plants are proposed.
