Abstract :
The design and construction of a lithium niobate 16*16 guided wave switch with a Benes architecture is described. The switch is interfaced to polarisation maintaining optical fibre, has 56 elements, switching voltages ranging between 35 and 60 V and crosstalk suppression of 20 dB at 1.3 mu m wavelength.
