An old chapter and a new chapter [Tried and True]

As you read this column, I am back in graduate school at Kansas State University (KSU) pursuing my Ph.D. full time. Several factors played into my decision to return to university and get my terminal degree: my consulting work had dropped off to zero, and I really have always wanted to teach and do research in the university environment. At the urging of my wife, I called Steve Dyer for advice in late October, 2011 about the feasibility of getting a Ph.D. at my age (I was 55). That phone call turned into an invitation from Steve to attend KSU. My wife and I quickly agreed that it was a good course of action for both of us.
