  • Abstract
It\´s the era of \´ology\´. Whether you\´re having a Quartz Crystal facial at the Peninsula in Beverley Hills, a Platinum Rare facial with \´derma-globe\´ at the Rome Cavalieri or Iridology at the Peter Island Resort in the British Virgin Islands, all the claims of these cosmetic treatments to relax, refresh and rejuvenate are shrouded in the language of science and technology. Iridology is described as "a non-invasive, safe and painless diagnostic treatment that analyses the patterns in the delicate fibres of the iris, each representing a different body zone, to distinguish between healthy systems and organs in the body and those which are overactive, inflamed or distressed". The difference between an iris reader and a palm reader is not, however, explained.
