Abstract
Optical heterostructures composed of alternating three-dimensional dielectric layers are designed to have the same transmission and traversal time characteristics as quantum wire structures. In this manner, the time and transmission behavior of a quantum wire, very difficult to measure directly, can be determined from conventional optical measurements
