Abstract :
The design and construction of a lithium niobate 8×8 optical switch with a rearrangeably nonblocking architecture is described. The design is compared with the more familiar strictly nonblocking architecture. The switch has 28 elements, a switching voltage of 26 V and a loss of 5.5 dB at 1.3 μm wavelength
