Abstract :
Detailed theoretical analysis is performed for numerous designs of erbium doped fibres. Comparisons are made with respect to the optimal gain at 1530 nm. The results show that the highest gain for amplifiers pumped at 1480 nm is obtained when the index profiles have normalised frequency values near 1.4 at the pump wavelength.
