Abstract :
The authors describe how, in 1993, Manweb (UK) decided to implement a large-scale advanced meter reading (AMR) trial to test the technology, its application within a utility environment and formulate future AMR strategy. In summary, the trial has successfully met all of its original objectives. The trial has shown that, although the original concepts were valid, the actual implementation, installation and configuration have been considerably more demanding than initially anticipated.
