Abstract :
A new available bit rate (ABR) congestion control algorithm is proposed which, by adopting a probabilistic congestion detection (PCD) scheme in ATM networks, improves the performance of the ABR algorithms which use queue length as a congestion indicator. Since the PCD scheme prevents ABR sources from being synchronised, it reduces queue length fluctuation and cell losses in ATM switches. Also, the PCD scheme is less sensitive to a change of the ABR control parameters
