  • Abstract
    In this paper, interference statistical distribution is obtained for cognitive satellite communication systems operating above 10GHz, taking into account the propagation phenomena. The adoption of cognitive aspects in broadband satellite systems is considered as a promising solution for possible spectrum scarcity in the future. Dual cognitive satellite systems, operating at Ku-band and above, are investigated in this paper. More specifically, the Signal-to-Interference Ratio statistical distribution under rainfall conditions and under the assumption that the link under consideration is available is analytically obtained and verified using an accurate multi-dimensional rain attenuation time series synthesizer. The performance, of both incumbent and cognitive users suffering from interference, is examined. In the numerical results Section, it is shown that the synthesizer reproduces the first-order interference statistics.
