Abstract
Describes the results of test experiments which have allowed the breakdown voltage at 50% to be obtained for pin spark gaps with up to 20 m spacing, as a time dependence of the applied pulse edge. Based on these results, an empirical formula was developed with which to calculate the minimum breakdown voltage to 50% which would correspond to a critical pulse edge, dependent on the spacing of the pin spark gap.
