Abstract
This paper assesses the impact of commonly used cable modelling techniques on the accuracy and simulation speed of detailed VSC-HVDC models for a range of typical studies. The results show that the choice of cable model can have a significant impact on the accuracy of the VSC-HVDC models and that employing a higher fidelity cable model does not necessarily increase the overall model´s simulation time. The parameters for a typical DC-XLPE submarine cable are also derived. The paper concludes with a set of cable modelling recommendations.
